Deck House

BETHESDA, MARYLAND

Residents of Carderock Springs, a midcentury modern neighborhood, wanted to rejuvenate and add on to their house which had a previous addition completed in the 1970’s. They requested a new modern kitchen and main floor powder room as well as an expansive new deck. We also added a three-season sun room designed to feel like a natural extension of the house. The resulting home has more open and modern spaces with improved access to outside, including a new large “courtyard” deck accessible from the house on three sides. Careful study of roof angles on the existing house informed the roof design on the addition which interlocks cleanly into the existing home. The whole house was freshened with a new paint scheme to help unify the original dark siding with the white painted brick and trim.
